With a generous donation from the La Macchia Family honoring the late Sharon La Macchia’s love of children and her dedication to the arts, we launched the new Visiting Artists Series Jr. last season.
We kicked off the series by commissioning a children’s picture book, Thunder in the Theatre, written by Sheri Mabry and illustrated by Alyssa Brown, which shares the story of a youngster’s first live theatre experience. Families were invited to a Book Release Event for an author reading and other activities – as well as a copy of the book!
We also offered two children’s performances, Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch from Axis Theatre Company and Goodnight Moon & The Runaway Bunny from Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia. Both were beautifully staged and enjoyed by attendees of several sold out school district performances and evening shows for families.
Cedarburg School District, with a grant from Cedarburg Education Foundation, embraced the Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch play and book and its theme of kindness. They used it to highlight the importance of friendship and caring about others in the community with special activities and partnerships.
